Shortcrust Pastry

Serves 12
30 mins prep time

Ingredients

225g McDougalls 30% Wholegrain Plain Flour
100g Cold butter (cubed)
Pinch of salt
2-3 tbsp water

Directions

1. For the best results make sure your butter is cold. Put the cold butter, salt and flour into a large bowl and rub in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
2. Add 2-3 tbsp water and mix to a firm dough. Don’t over mix the pastry, as this will create a tough dough.
3. Knead the dough on a floured surface. Wrap in cling film and chill while preparing your filling.
4. Bake as required.

 

Top tips

For a savoury twist try adding in 75 – 100g of finely grated Cheddar cheese before adding in the water. Why not add in a pinch of mustard powder or cayenne pepper for an extra kick of flavour.
