The McDougalls Story
The McDougalls story began in Manchester in 1864, when the McDougalls brothers developed a substitute for Yeast, mixing this with flour to produce the first Self-Raising flour.
At the same time, Joseph Rank rented a small flour mill. One of his innovations, as his business grew, was the use of steel rollers for milling rather than traditional millstones.
In 1957, McDougalls and Hovis came together to create Hovis-McDougalls, before later merging with Rank in 1962 to form Rank Hovis McDougall. The McDougalls brand has continued to move from strength to strength through each company it has been part of, and in 2007 Rank Hovis McDougall joined the Premier Foods family, where McDougalls remains just as loved today as it was then.
